“Survival of the fittest” is a phrase everybody is familiar with. However, only a few have given the idea some serious thought. Most people stop short of considering exactly how ready they are physically to withstand the most challenging of circumstances. Actually, the key to weathering a distressed condition lies in survival fitness, being extremely physically fit. Disasters can take a lot out of the human body so it pays to be healthy at the outset. It’s the only way to come out alive.
Why Survival Fitness Is So Important
A situation where modern conveniences and power sources are absent is called a survival condition. When such amenities are available, they often have to be used in controlled portions – rationing. Without a house as well as transportation, your life is sure to get more “physical” quickly and more completely.
There’s the task of building and maintaining makeshift shelter. To reach stores and buy stuff, you’ll need to walk there and return the same way on foot. If shops were closed when you happened to go, your only recourse is to do the food hunting yourself. Overall, you’ll have to be more industrious, forcing you to rely on personal physicality on a larger scale. The ability to protect family and home is greatly hinged on one’s level of physical strength and viability.
Apart from the manual tasks that will confront you during times of crises, the very nature of surviving distressed conditions will heavily impact the physical makeup. The senses along with the nerves will operate at intensified levels. You’ll be pumped up with adrenaline, allowing you to get by with little sleep.
Even if you’re not facing any real danger, it doesn’t hurt to gauge your physical conditioning status. Once you’ve determined where you are in terms of fitness, adjust and tweak where necessary. If you currently don’t participate in a conditioning routine, there’s no time like the present to start doing so.
Signing up with a health club or using pricey equipment is not necessary to get your body in tip-top shape. Look at the country’s military personnel. They’re among the best toned and conditioned people out there, and yet the armed forces just rely on basic, old-fashioned but highly effective fitness exercises like pull-ups, running, push-ups, crunches or sit-ups and other activities. All these don’t call for leaving the house or spending a cent to perform.
Survival fitness has a lot to do with logistics. You want to stock up on ammunition and firearms, food, precious metals plus various other goods that people automatically think of when preparing for emergency situations characterized by survival conditions. However, ample supplies aren’t the only things people should worry about.
Physical conditioning is equally important, although many take it for granted. Bear in mind that the rest of your preparations will be useless if you’re not physically ready to utilize them during distressed conditions. Physical fitness plus adequate supplies equals a higher chance of survival.
